Freeman Makes Veteran Decision Under Pressure at 281 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – STEPHENVILLE, Texas (July 21, 2014) – Cody Freeman showed he is wise beyond his years last weekend.

After Friday’s micro sprint event at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, was rained out, Freeman and his team made its debut at 281 Speedway on Saturday.

“It was a learning experience,” he said. “The dirt was a lot sandier. It was a different type of dirt than we’ve experienced before.”

Freeman advanced from fourth to third place in his heat race, which lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

“I saw a few mistakes I made as a driver in the heat race and wanted to make small changes to the car,” he said. “We ended up making some changes that really helped.”

Freeman picked up a couple of positions in the first half of the race and he was in third place when a caution came out with approximately four laps remaining.

“There was a caution, which was what I needed to have a shot at getting around the second-place driver and going after the win,” he said. “I knew I was going to have a strong run at the end. But under caution the throttle hung open. I tried several different techniques trying to get the throttle to release. Instead of tearing up my equipment or my competitor’s equipment, I hit the kill switch. It was safer just to call it a night.”

Freeman stopped during the caution and he decided not to risk restarting with the throttle hung open. He was credited with a seventh-place finish, which was his 15th top 10 of the season.

“Anything can happen and in the interest of my safety and the other drivers in the field I didn’t want to hurt anybody,” he said.

Freeman is scheduled to compete this Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway and on Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas.
