Freeman Shows Improvement in Return to Speedway Motors Tulsa Shootout

Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 5, 2015) – Cody Freeman is ready for another shot at the famed Tulsa Shootout.

Freeman fought a loose race car and bad luck last weekend during the 30th edition of the micro sprint event inside the River Spirit Expo Center.

He kicked off the event last Thursday by advancing from fifth to third place in a restricted “A” class heat race.

“On the first lap going into the first turn a guy came down and spun out, which put me up one spot up,” he said. “Once we got going I couldn’t get up to second place because I didn’t have enough off the corners. I was pretty happy because it made me confident I’d make the qualifier and go straight to the A Main.”

Freeman earned enough points in his heat race to move into a qualifier, which he started on the outside of the third row.

“In the qualifier my car was really loose,” he said. “My tires were spinning and I couldn’t steer. I ended up spinning out.”

Freeman ended with an 11th-place result in the qualifier, relegating him into a B Main.

“In the first turn my car had a push,” he said. “That slowed it down. Once I got it back up to speed a car came in and nailed me into the wall. Another car came in and tire-hopped me and knocked the carburetor off so that was it.”

Freeman was unable to restart the race, which ended his Tulsa Shootout.

“We didn’t make the A Main, but we definitely improved from last year,” he said. “I look forward to going back next year and trying again.”
