Freeman Scores First Career Micro Sprint Feature Victory During Season Opener

Inside Line Promotions – KENNEDALE, Texas (March 16, 2015) – Cody Freeman let out a huge sigh as he crossed the finish line first last Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park.

Freeman was relieved after recording his first career micro sprint feature victory, which he had come close to so many times throughout the past couple of years.

“I was so happy I won my first race,” he said. “We ran second so many times that it was great to get the first win. I think wins will come easier now that I have the first one.”

Freeman kicked off the season-opening event by advancing from fourth to third place in his heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 15-lap feature.

However, it didn’t get off to a good start as several cars collided on the initial green flag, including Freeman, who was spun around after contact. He was able to restart the race in the same position and took advantage of a clean start the next time.

Freeman battled for second place for a couple of laps before finding his groove.

“The track was really slick,” he said. “You had to let off going into the corners. You couldn’t get the car really sideways. It was difficult. You had to go slow in the corners to go faster down the straightaway.”

Within a couple of laps of taking over second place he tracked down the leader. Freeman then maneuvered into the top spot approximately a third of the way through the main event and he hit his marks each lap for the remainder of the feature on the slick track.

“When I saw the white flag I was just like keep calm, don’t spin it out, they might be right behind you,” he said. “That felt great to start the season with a win.”

Freeman had also scheduled to race last Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, but the event was rained out.

He will be off this weekend before racing on March 27 at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, and March 28 at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas.
