Freeman Endures Wild Feature during Nolan Wren Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (April 4, 2016) – Cody Freeman had an eventful night last Saturday at Gator Motorplex during the Nolan Wren Memorial.

Freeman, who was competing in the Winged ‘A’ Class micro sprint division, opened the event by advancing from sixth to fourth place in a heat race to lock himself into the main event.

“The heat race was good,” he said. “I tried to pass for third on the last lap, but he held his line and I wasn’t able to get by him.”

That lined Freeman up on the outside of the seventh row for the feature. However, he quickly maneuvered into the top 10 before contact during an early restart sent him to the back.

“I was up to eighth and on the restart a car didn’t lift and drove straight into my left rear, which spun me out and forced me to restart at the back,” he said.

Freeman mounted a charge toward his original starting position and he was in contention to crack the top 15 with a handful of laps remaining when another near miss occurred.

“I was about to pass a few cars because they were sliding up the track in a turn,” he said. “I was going to hit the bottom. When I was set up to do that I had a car spin out right in front of me. I had to lock up the brakes and turn left. I was able to avoid it, but it stalled the car and forced me to restart at the back again.”

Freeman picked up a couple of positions following the restart and he finished with an 18th-place result.

Last Friday’s NOW600 National Micro Series presented by MyRacePass event at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, rained out.

Freeman is scheduled to take this weekend off before returning to competition on April 16 at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the NOW600 National Micro Series presented by MyRacePass.
