Freeman Improves to Sixth-Place Finish During 3rd annual Nolan Wren Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (April 21, 2014) – Cody Freeman nearly captured his goal last weekend during the 3rd annual Nolan Wren Memorial.

The micro sprint driver from Texas improved on his 10th-place finish from the previous year during the memorial race at Gator Motorplex to score a sixth-place result last Saturday. It was his third top 10 of the season.

“It did not go in our favor, but it went well,” he said. “We left in one piece. We had a couple of incidents that occurred in front of us and we were able to avoid them.”

Freeman got off to a rough start in his heat race, when he dropped from the pole position to a fourth-place finish.

“The car was good in hot laps and we thought we were good to go,” he said. “The car was super, super loose in the heat race. We tightened it up for the feature and the car ran really good on the bottom, but it did not like running the middle of the track. It was a one-lane track. You were either on the bottom or you were going to the back.”

Freeman started the main event on the outside of the third row and battled for a spot in the top five for the entire race before settling for sixth place.

“We feel like it was a successful weekend,” he said. “We chalked it up as a success because we were able to finish better than last year. It was also our first time seeing a true rubber-down, slicked-off track and we made the correct changes. Overall as a team it was a big improvement.”

A bonus was one of Freeman’s sponsors from C&J Energy Services attended the race.

“It was really nice having them there,” he said. “It was fun to hang out with them. It meant a lot to me.”

Freeman is scheduled to return to the track this Saturday at Gulf Coast Speedway in Alvin, Texas, where he earned a runner-up finish at the end of March.

“We feel real confident going into this weekend,” he said. “We have a lot of experience at Gulf Coast Speedway. We picked up our first heat win last year there. It’s always been one of our better tracks.”
