Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (Sept. 22, 2016) – A mid-race restart likely cost Cody Freeman a shot at a win last Saturday at Superbowl Speedway.
Freeman, who was competing in his winged A-Class 600cc micro sprint, started on the pole of the 15-lap feature and quickly darted into the lead. On Lap 8 the caution flag was waved.
“On the restart another driver went around the high side of me and chopped me off going into the turn,” he said. “I had to check up hard and four other cars got around me.”
Freeman, who opened the night by winning a heat race, ended the feature with his first top five of the season as he placed fifth.
“I think I could have won had that caution not come out, but we’ll take a top five,” he said. “It gives me confidence for the last few races of the year. I think we can get a win or two.”
Freeman is planning several more races to close out the season before preparing for the Tulsa Shootout at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla., next January. He is tentatively slated to return to action on Oct. 8 at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, with the Driven Midwest NOW600 Series.
